ABOUT
The Most Exciting Weekend All Year
The Mustang Classic is a one-of-a-kind, premier english equestrian event that showcases the versatility, athleticism, and heart of the American mustang. Produced by Mustang Champions in partnership with the BLM Wild Horse & Burro Program, this prestigious competition offers spectators an inspiring look into the transformation of wild mustangs as they progress from untouched to accomplished equine partners.
Competitors will showcase their horses’ adaptability and training across three demanding preliminary classes that highlights the mustang’s willingness to perform, showcasing their grace, athletic ability, and partnership with their rider. The top-performing pairs from the preliminary rounds will advance to the Championship Finals, where the best of the best will compete for top honors and a share of the $50,000 purse.
As the richest, english-discipline mustang competition, the Mustang Classic stands as a landmark event in equestrian sport. With over $125,000 in payouts, it delivers an unparalleled experience for both competitors and spectators, solidifying its place as a must-attend event on the international equestrian calendar.
The 2026 Mustang Classic will take place September 2026, at the world-renowned Rolex Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
THE CLASSES
An Equestrian Triathlon

Dressage
Dressage showcases the mustang’s balance, rhythm, and responsiveness as horse and rider perform precise, coordinated movements in an enclosed arena.

Show Jumping
The Show Jumping phase tests a horse’s athleticism, agility and tractability while simultaneously testing a rider’s precision, accuracy and responsiveness.

Working Equitation
Competitors will ride a Novice-level Ease of Handling course with at least 10 obstacles, simulating real-world challenges faced by horse and rider.

Competitors can have up to 10 months
to train their wild mustangs.
